Frequently Asked Questions
Welcome to the heart of Mexico! San Miguel de Allende is a UNESCO World Heritage city known for its cobblestone streets, colorful colonial architecture, and incredible food scene. It's about a 3.5-hour drive (or a short domestic flight to Bajío/León airport) from Mexico City.
September is the tail end of the rainy season, so expect warm days in the mid-70s to low 80s °F with the occasional afternoon shower — nothing that lasts long. Pack a light layer for the evenings, as it can cool down after sunset at this elevation (~6,200 ft).
The food? Unbelievable. From street-side tacos to world-class restaurants, you'll eat very well here. We do recommend drinking bottled water (skip the ice at smaller spots) and using your judgment when it comes to street food — look for places that are busy and clean.
San Miguel is one of the safest cities in Mexico and is very welcoming to visitors. That said, as with any travel, keep your passport, cards, and cash secure — just like you would in any major city.
We're in Mexico after all - so dress vibrant and joyful! Think elevated cocktail attire in bold colors, rich tones, playful prints, or unexpected textures. This is your moment for that dress you’ve been waiting to wear.
For the guys: Skip the tie if you’d like (or wear one if you prefer!). Add texture, a great shoe, an open collar, or a pocket square. Linen, lightweight fabrics, and breathable materials are absolutely welcome (it’s Mexico, after all).
Heels, block heels, or dressy flats all work — choose what you’ll feel great dancing in.
IMPORTANT!! Yes, you will need a valid passport with more than six months of validity to travel to Mexico. Please check the expiration date ASAP!
American's do not need visas to travel to Mexico. Friends from other nationalities can check here if they require a visa at the bottom of this website:

In early September, San Miguel de Allende has awesome late summer weather with warm days and cool evenings. Daytime temps are usually in the mid-70s to low 80s (24–28°C), perfect for exploring. Nights can get cooler, dropping to the low 50s (10–12°C), so bring a light jacket for the evenings but you won’t need it on the dance floor!!
Because it’s a great time to visit (and for a wedding!) with lots of sunshine and mild weather, everything will be outdoors.
San Miguel is very walkable town and all the events of the weekend will be right in the heart of downtown so we expect most guests will be able to walk to and from events. That being said, it can be a bit hilly and the cobblestones aren’t heel-friendly, so if you prefer to take a cab, you can easily spot them on the street. These are super affordable (typically less than $120 Mexican Pesos or ~$7 USD, cash only) and safe. Uber is also widely available.
You do not need a rental car to get around town. As a reminder, we encourage you to download WhatsApp to communicate with hotels and drivers.
You will need cash for things like local cabs, tips, handcrafts, street vendors, etc. Being a touristic town, lots of people will accept USD, but if you're able to bring Pesos it will make your life a bit easier. You can take out cash at ATM in town, or if you're like Andrew, you can call your bank in the U.S and order Pesos ahead of time to bring with you. Most places and most taxis also accept Apple/Google Pay, tap to pay, and major credit cards.
Yes! If you have a major U.S carrier like Verizon or AT&T, your phone will work as if you were in the U.S, no international rates. To be safe, check with your carrier ahead of the trip.
Your love and presence is truly the best gift we could ask for...but if you would like to help us kick off married life with a little extra love, we've put together a registry with some of our favorite things (and future memories). Absolutely no pressure! We're just so grateful to celebrate with you.
The cheat sheet to getting there, looking cute, and not ending up at the wrong place!
