PASSPORT
Don’t forget to bring your passport! While the Mexican government requires that your passport be valid for the duration of your stay, some airlines may adhere to the U.S. rule requiring passports to have at least six months validity from the date of entry. To avoid any travel disruptions, please verify the passport requirements with your airline(s) before departure.

POWER CONVERTERS & ADAPTERS
Guests from North America do not need a power converter, as Mexico uses the standard 110V, the same as the US and Canada. In addition to voltage considerations, all guests should check if they need a plug adapter. Mexican outlets typically accept American two-prong flat pins. If your device uses a different plug type, such as a three-prong plug, you will need an adapter to use your electronics in Mexico.

TIPPING
Tipping is customary and appreciated in Mexico. In restaurants, a tip of 15–20% is standard, and you can tip in either dollars or pesos. For smaller services like taxis or cafes, rounding up or adding a small amount in pesos is also appreciated.

WATER SAFETY
It’s best to drink bottled water during your stay. Avoid ice unless you are certain it is made from purified water.

TRANSPORTATION AROUND SAN MIGUEL
Car parking within San Miguel is very limited. Therefore, we advise using the affordable transportation options listed above.
Taxis, Ubers, and other rideshare services are readily available and generally safe to use.
Agree on fares beforehand when using taxis to avoid confusion.

BRING TENNIS SHOES FOR WALKING
San Miguel is a highly walkable city and most people prefer to walk everywhere. Part of its charm includes its cobblestone streets which, while beautiful, can be tricky to navigate—especially if you don’t have the right shoes. We highly recommend
wearing flats, sandals, tennis shoes, or sneakers for comfort as you explore. Heels are okay, but you may want to catch a ride if you have far to walk (to the wedding, for example).

SAFETY TIPS
San Miguel de Allende is known for being a very safe destination with little to no crime. However, as with any travel, exercise common sense.
We recommend downloading WhatsApp if you don't have it already. All of the car companies, hotels and airbnbs will use this app to communicate with you. It's extremely helpful and straightforward to use!
